The power of Fring and Skype on mobile phones are exceptional. I would like to show you an example how you can connect to any instant messaging applications like gtalk/skype/yahoo/msn etc. All thanks to Voice over IP(VOIP) and Internet (dont forget WiFi technologies too).
Let me show you what I do with these technologies and when they mix together - miracle happens.
Text Chat
Install Fring on your handset. Register yourself and subscribe to any of the instant messaging services like gtalk/skype/yahoo/msn etc. You can text chat to the any of your online friend. You can login to more than one instant messaging applications. Thats what I like more. While chatting you can easily transfer files as well.
I am using Nokia N91 and Nokia 5800 and they both support Fring(as they both have Symbian operating system - I love Symbian). For more handset support details, please visit http://www.fring.com/
STEP 2:
Voice Call (Free Call)
If two partners have 3G or WiFi, you need not worry. Why pay over expensive telephone calls. Doesn't matter where you are. This is the best feature which I recommend to have voice call. You can use either Gtalk or Skype for voice call. Skype is giving best performance on voice quality. And its all FREE*.
* Charges as per internet plans but no telephone service charge.
Note: Make cheap local and international calls to landlines and regular mobile contacts using your SkypeOut account or hundreds of SIP-based providers such as Eutelia, GizmoProject, VoipCheap, VoipStunt, Free World & SIPNET over fring, even from non-SIP enabled handsets. STEP 3:
Video Call
You need to have two Fring compatible handsets. You can start video call by using Skype. I have tried calling with Nokia 5800 to the same model and it works just fine. (Bandwidth usage 1mb/min - source: fring.com)
Let me explain you how do I start video call. Though my Nokia N91 does not support video call on Skype so I am using my laptop for video call.
Now here we have one more funda. While doing video call, I realized that I don't have a web camera. This was really annoying me and I had no plans to buy a web camera separately for this.
Then I got a magic tool. Its called Mobiola Web Camera. It actually turn your mobile camera into web camera. Its works as good as your normal web camera.
Its a single piece of software which you can download from: http://www.warelex.com/products/webcam/
When you download this, you will get two files. Executable .exe will install on your computer and .sis will install on your phone. Thats it. Latest version support 3 types of connectivity. USB/Bluetooth/WiFi. I choose bluetooth because its easy to setup and provides fast connectivity.
Enjoy :-)
